CASE 2

Museum Lates

1st, Feb 2020 / Science Museum & Natural History Museum

In this category of your exploration in Silent Disco, you will be visiting two of the best Museum Lates in London which include Silent Disco as part of their monthly activities that open to the public (18+ only): the Silent Discos at the Science Museum Lates and the Natural History Museum Lates.

The field research of the two events was conducted on different dates of January and February 2020. As the official websites of the museums show below, at the Science Museum: "Whether you’re practising your moves or just in the mood to slam dunk the funk, grab a headset, select your tunes and dance until you drop."

Video 1 (below): the Science Museum, London. People singing "Don't Cha" by The Pussycat Dolls. If you listen to it closely, there was a couple who were discussing which channel to tune in: "Don't you wish your girlfriend was as hot like me? Which one is better? I don't know". So, question: which channel suits your vibe the best? Will you listen to a "recommended channel"? Who knows yourself best?

After changed to the same channel, a couple kissed in the crowd.

At the Natural History Museum, you will "choose your side as three DJs do battle over separate wireless channels, playing the best in pop, rock and party classics. Don a headset and carry on the party into the night in the spectacular Hintze Hall."

Video 2: at the Natural History Museum London. People divided into 3 channels, easily found them grouped in circles according to the channel. At the beginning of the video, the volume from the crowd of the three channels is more evenly distributed. Slowly, the channel with the song "My Heart Will Go on" finally overpowered the other two, overlapped on them at the end, becoming the "main theme song" in the museum hall whereas the other two were hardly heard.
Image 2: participants were reluctant to leave. The immersive experience of Silent Disco and a museum late event created a memorable night.
